The Pawleys Island Evenings Worth Planning Around Before August Ends

Things to Do in Pawleys Island Before August 2026 Ends

If you have lived on the Waccamaw Neck for more than a summer or two, you already know the beach empties by seven. What is less obvious, and what shifted noticeably this year, is where the second half of the evening goes. It is not down toward the pier. It is inland, along the four-mile stretch of Ocean Highway between Willbrook and the Hammock Shops, where the newer restaurants clustered and where Brookgreen's summer program is finishing its strongest run in years.

August is the month that used to feel like a holding pattern before Labor Day. This one has a schedule. Below is what actually earns a night out between now and the end of the month, in the order a resident would probably use it.

The Brookgreen closing act is stronger than the opening was

Summer Light: Art by Night has been running Wednesdays and Saturdays since late May, but the reason to circle the last three weeks is the sculpture rotation on top of it. Brookgreen brought back Summer Light: Art by Night starting May 27, 2026, and the anchor exhibition this year is Gardens of Glass: The Art of Craig Mitchell Smith, featuring 30 larger-than-life glass sculptures placed throughout the gardens. As the sun sets, the pieces, including glass apple blossoms, dragonflies, and dandelions, are professionally illuminated.

What changed on August 8 is worth a separate trip. The National Sculpture Society's 93rd Annual Awards Exhibition opened at Brookgreen on August 8, presenting the finest in contemporary figurative sculpture from American masters alongside rising artists. Daytime admission covers it. So the honest move for the next two weeks is to buy a combined day-and-evening ticket, walk the National Sculpture Society show in the late afternoon before general admission closes, then let the gates reopen at six for the illuminated version of the same grounds.

A few dates left on the calendar:

  • Wednesday, August 12
  • Saturday, August 15
  • Wednesday, August 19
  • Saturday, August 22

Gates close for general admission at 5 p.m. and reopen at 6:00 p.m. for Summer Light, and a discount is available if you purchase both day and evening tickets simultaneously. August 22 is the last night. After that, the grounds go back to daytime-only until the fall programming picks up.

The mainland restaurants residents actually rotate through

The dining conversation on Pawleys has changed more in the last twenty-four months than in the previous ten. Three of the four places worth knowing did not exist under their current names two summers ago.

Pawleys Fish Camp, opened by Georgetown native Chef Brandon Wallace, sits at 10744 Ocean Highway in the former Tuscany Bistro space, and runs Tuesday through Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. The menu leans on Lowcountry staples like shrimp and grits, fried catfish, and crab leg boil, with additions like fried deviled eggs and Catfish and Collards. This is the closest thing Pawleys currently has to a full-tilt seafood room that is not aimed primarily at visitors.

Farther south, Tide to Table and Tide Beach Bar debuted at The Oceanfront Litchfield Inn at 1 Norris Drive, which gives residents a rare oceanfront option that is not a hotel dining room in disguise. The menu includes baked oysters with herbed butter and Parmesan, Scottish salmon with citrus beurre blanc, and Chilean sea bass. Go before sunset and sit outside. Go after nine and it turns into a bar.

For a different register, Andomiro brings Asian fusion to the area with ramen, japchae, spring rolls, and Korean-style fried rice, and the beverage list includes house-made soju cocktails and traditional Korean rice wine. It is the one place on the corridor where nothing on the plate is trying to be Lowcountry.

At the Hammock Shops Village, Local Eat Drink Celebrate has settled into the role of neighborhood restaurant. The menu leans on a Maryland-style crab cake made with unpasteurized North Carolina blue crab from a Murrells Inlet market ten minutes away, which is the kind of sourcing detail that only registers if you eat there twice.

A note for context. A bell rings twice daily at the historic Sea View Inn on Pawleys Island for a Lowcountry-inspired breakfast and lunch that is open to inn guests and, by reservation, the public, and it remains the only place the public can dine on the historic island itself. Everything else in this section is mainland. That geographic split, island for morning, mainland for evening, is essentially the shape of a Pawleys week right now.

The Sunday that anchors the last weekend of the month

The final Sunday of August is the one non-negotiable date. The Hammock Shops Farmers Market runs the last Sunday of the month from April through November, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 10880 Ocean Highway, coordinated by the Waccamaw Market Cooperative. That puts the August installment on Sunday the 30th, the weekend before Labor Day, when the traffic dies and the shopping actually gets pleasant.

If you want a mid-week produce run, the Hammock Shops Farmers Market at 13707 Ocean Highway is also open Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. until, from April through November. That distinction, the Waccamaw Cooperative pop-up on the last Sunday versus the standing Friday-Saturday market at a separate Hammock Shops address, catches even long-time residents off guard. They are two different operations.

A late-August week, roughly

For anyone who wants the calendar in one glance, the pattern for the last two weeks of the month sorts out like this.

Day Where the evening lands
Wednesday Brookgreen Summer Light, 6–10 p.m., last two dates Aug 12 and Aug 19
Thursday Pawleys Fish Camp opens at 4; quietest of the dinner nights
Friday Hammock Shops standing farmers market until close; dinner at Local or Andomiro
Saturday Brookgreen Summer Light final on Aug 22; Pawleys Island Tavern live music after
Sunday Last-Sunday market Aug 30, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.; Tide to Table for a late lunch

Pawleys Island Tavern has live music every weekend, and its award-winning Tiki Bar opens at 4 p.m. every weekend day, weather permitting. Whatever else you plan, the PIT is the fallback when a plan collapses.

Why any of this matters if you have been here a while

The reason to bother writing this down is that the center of gravity on Pawleys moved, and not everyone has updated the mental map. Ten years ago the evening rotation on the Neck was Frank's, Bistro 217, the PIT, and Sea View if you knew the reservation trick. That set is still there and still good. What is new is that four of the places above did not exist on that map, and three of them are within a mile of each other on the same corridor.

That is the practical thesis of the summer. Pawleys did not become busier. It became denser. The same short stretch of Ocean Highway now supports a fish house, an oceanfront patio, an Asian fusion room, a locally-sourced pub, and a weekly market, along with a working sculpture garden that stays open until ten twice a week through August 22. A resident can build a full week of evenings without leaving the four-mile band between Willbrook Boulevard and the north causeway. Two summers ago, that was not true.

Which is a nice thing to know before the season closes and the schedule contracts back to weekends only.

If you have been thinking about how this pace of change affects home values along the Waccamaw Neck, or you own here and want a current read on what the market is doing between Litchfield and the south causeway, Liat Edri is available for a conversation and a free home valuation. No pressure, just a local read from someone who has been working this stretch of the coast since 2006.
